Dr. Sarah Silcox

, , Canada
Veterinarian, Mobile Veterinary Services

Dr. Sarah Silcox graduated from the University of Guelph, Ontario Veterinary College in 1997. Following graduation, she worked at a busy, multi-doctor, small animal practice where she continued to upgrade her skills, and fostered an interest in complementary therapies.

In 2001 she completed the Professional Course in Veterinary Homeopathy and soon after, left general practice and opened the first Integrative Medicine House Call Practice in the Durham Region. In 2004, she became certified in Veterinary Acupuncture through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, and in 2010 completed her certification in Animal Chiropractic. Most recently, in 2015, she added the benefits of therapeutic laser treatment to practice.

Dr. Silcox has been working full-time in her House Call practice for the last 13 years, offering a truly integrative approach to veterinary care that includes conventional medicine, titer testing, nutritional consultations, nutritional supplements, western and Chinese herbal formulas, chiropractic and laser therapy.

She has also spent the last 15 years working part-time as an emergency care veterinarian at the Animal Emergency Clinic of Durham Region, where she sees a range of very different cases compared to those seen in house-call practice.

Later this spring, she is excited to be opening a new house-call practice that will be dedicated to offering palliative, hospice, and end-of-life care to pets in her area.

An advocate for the veterinary use of cannabinoids, her interest in the potential benefits of medical cannabis for pets reaches back several years, and she is eagerly anticipating changes in legislation which will allow further studies in this area, and allow her patients to be able to access such a valuable herbal medicine.

When not working, Dr. Silcox shares her time with her husband and two dogs, Blackberry and Wallace, and enjoys travel, working outdoors and starting home renovation projects.
